CSKT Education Planning and Review Team seeks input and student intern
PABLO The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes have undertaken
a review of the education our students have access to, processes
currently in place, and unmet needs.
The CSKT Tribal Council appointed an Education Planning and
Review Team (EdPaRT) in May 2009 and hired a consultant to assist in
developing an Education Strategic Plan. The team is looking for a
Student Intern with excellent writing skills to assist them in
finalizing the plan from June-Oct.
The team has developed a draft Education Strategic Plan with eight strategic initiatives including:
Governance & School Relations
Finance & Resources
Academic Achievement-Assessment-Accountability
Healthy Children-Family Wellness-Parental Involvement
Career Opportunities-Training-Staff Development
Communication-Participation-Parental Support
Constructive Engagement with Partners & Community
Respectful Learning Environments & Equitable Access
A retreat is scheduled for June 16-17 to finalize this draft
plan. The Student Intern is expected to attend this session in Polson.
Additionally, from June-September 2010, public meetings to
solicit input from the community regarding the plan will be held in
Arlee, Dixon/Charlo, St. Ignatius, Ronan, Pablo, Polson, Hot Springs,
and Elmo/Dayton.
Meetings will also be held with the school Superintendents,
Principals, Teachers, School Boards, Indian Education Committees
(IECs), the Tribal Education Committee (TEC), and other parent
committees.
A professional will be obtained to take notes at all of the
meetings to document the proceedings from each venue. The Student
Intern is required to attend all of the meetings and incorporate that
information into the Education Strategic Plan.
A website will be developed to keep the community updated on
the process as well as serve as a venue to complete an online survey.
Compensation of $3,000 will be offered for the internship. If you are interested, please e-mail Shelly Fyant, Co-Chair, at sfyant@gmail.com
by June 14, 2010. She can be reached at (406) 675-2700, Ext. 6302 or
(406) 546-5633 to answer any questions potential intern candidates may
have. Those interested candidates will be required to submit a writing
sample and be interviewed beginning June 15.
