Early Head Start teacher earns Child Development Associate Credential
From Early Head Start program
RONAN — Susen Villegas, Infant Teacher at the Ronan Early Head Start was recently awarded the national Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential from the Council of Professional Recognition in Washington DC. The CDA is a nationally recognized organization whose mission is to improve the quality of early childhood care and education. Her credential is a testimony of her demonstrated competence in working with young children and their families.
“Obtaining and earning the CDA Credential has been rewarding in so many areas, bringing me to not only the knowledge of Infant/Toddler development and care but, also the reward of challenging myself and pushing further for the future of our children,” said Villegas. “I am grateful to the Early Childhood Services for the opportunity to attain this rewarding Certification.”
It takes special knowledge, skills and expertise to be an effective teacher of young children. It is a great honor to earn a CDA and it shows a commitment to teaching quality to early childhood education.
As a Child Development Associate, she will be teaching our nation’s youngest children and helping them to develop at the most critical period of their lives. The importance of this work cannot be underestimated. Villegas is laying the groundwork for these kids and our nation’s future.
To obtain a CDA Credential, candidates must demonstrate through a comprehensive evaluation process their knowledge of the Council’s CDA Competency Standards and be observed working with young children. Only after the candidate successfully completes the observation and an exam, are they awarded the national CDA Credential- valid for three years. Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council recognizes and credentials professionals who work with Head Start, Infant-toddler, family childcare, and home visitor programs.
