Two Eagle River School attendance all-stars raises bar for other students

By TERS Booster Club

PABLO — A stroll through the Two Eagle River School lunchroom area is informative and fun. It is filled with student work, and boasts and recognizes TERS attendance All Stars. The all stars include those students whose attendance is at least 80 per cent and some as high as 98 percent. Some students have personal photos on display while others choose cartoon characters to represent themselves. Either way, there is no mistaking that attendance at TERS matters. The result is that the all-stars’ attendance raises the bar for all other TERS students.

The school has an active attendance committee and at the end of the year, students may earn gift cards for exceptional academics and good attendance.

Whether it is monitoring attendance or planning for elders’ week, a lot happens at the school.

Later this spring, in mid-May, the school will sponsor a mini-language conference at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, on May 12 and 13.

This school-sponsored event is intended to increase language awareness as well as build language skills. The event will include a fund raising event called “Artists for Eagles” which consists of a raffle and silent auction. All proceeds of the event will go to “jump start the TERS Eagles Booster Club”.

The Booster Club is a model supported by the school board and administration as another way to involve students, families and the community in the school. Earlier this week, the staff at Two Eagle participated in a voluntary survey regarding proposed booster club activities. The hope is the Booster Club can help with recognition of academic achievement, cultural engagement, athletic achievement and personal commitment.

Leroy Black Jr., TERS Board Chairman, expressed support for the Artists for Eagles event stating “there are so many talented artists in our community that have strong ties to this school. We encourage artists to come forward and donate an item in appreciation for the school and students.”

Items donated may be dropped off at the school office in Pablo.

Gently used pow wow regalia, beadwork, jewelry no longer worn, sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking, woodwork, ceramic and metal work will all be accepted for the May silent auction.

All donations are appreciated.

The TERS raffle will include a two (2) hour private boat cruise on the Shadow and four dinner cruise tickets on the Shadow. This is the perfect way to get rid of the winter blues – plan a summer outing. TERS Raffle tickets for the boating events will be sold starting mid April. Questions about the Artists for Eagles event and donations to the silent auction or raffle may be directed to Teresa Wall McDonald at 676-2018.

The kick off TERS Booster Club meeting was held on March 2, 2017 and four individuals came. Rodney Bird, TERS Superintendent, stated that “we have to start somewhere and this is a good start. I encourage all parents to mark the next meeting on their calendar.” The next scheduled TERS Booster Club Meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 6. Meetings are held at the school lunchroom in Pablo and start at 6 pm. The community is invited and welcome.
