Are you ready for the Solar Eclipse?  Come join us at the Library on Monday, August 21 for our Solar Eclipse Block Party from 10am to 1pm.  We will have crafts for kids, educational displays, a photo booth, music, prizes and more.  Mission Valley Eye Center/Ronan Eye Clinic has generously sponsored the purchase of over 200 pairs of solar eclipse glasses that we will have available that day for safe viewing.  Our Library Foundation will be hosting a $5 hot dog lunch with all proceeds going to the Family Summer Reading Program.  We hope you will join us!

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun and blocks all or a part of the sun (depending on where you are viewing it).  In Polson, the Eclipse will begin at 10:16 am and end at 12:52 pm with the maximum eclipse occurring at 11:31 am.

Did you know that sunglasses are not a safe way to look at the sun?  To safely view the sun you need Eclipse glasses or welder’s goggles rated 14 or higher, specially designed solar telescopes or solar binoculars, a telescope, camera or binoculars with approved solar filters or a pinhole projector.  Eclipse glasses cannot have any scratches, cuts or be damaged in any way.  In Polson, we will see about 89% coverage so we need to wear special eye protection the entire time when we are looking at the Eclipse.  The rays from the sun can be extremely damaging to the eyes, so be safe and get your Eclipse glasses at the party.

We will also have a used book sale from 10am to 5pm on Eclipse day in the Library Meeting Room.  We will be live streaming NASA’s feed of the Eclipse as it passes over the United States on our SMART Board so you can watch the Eclipse while shopping.  We hope you will stop by and stock up on some reading treasures.

It is still hot out there and we have air conditioning.  We are open Monday-Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 11am to 4pm.  Visit our website www.northlakecountylibrary.org and our Facebook page for updates on the happenings at the Library!
