Director Haxby-Cote announces grants to support tribal business development

From Montana Department of Commerce

HELENA — Montana Department of Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote announced $127,500 in grant funds will be awarded to seven community organizations supporting business development on reservations and in tribal communities.

Funds are being awarded through the Native American Business Advisor grant program administered by the Department of Commerce. NABAs provide business and credit counseling, grant and loan application assistance, and other services for Native American businesses. One grant award per year is available for each of Montana’s eight tribal nations.

“Native American Business Advisors provide critical services to entrepreneurs in Montana’s Indian Country,” said Director Haxby-Cote. “Their support helps Native American-owned businesses to grow, create jobs and strengthen the local economies of reservations and other tribal communities around the state.”

One of the key services NABAs provide is to help clients apply for the Indian Equity Fund Small Business Grant at Commerce, which awards up to $14,000 per applicant for eligible expenses such as purchasing equipment and other business operations.
