Local law enforcement agencies catch stolen vehicle after high speed pursuit

From Polson Police Department

POLSON — On November 21, at approximately 7 p.m., a Polson Police Officer witnessed a traffic violation near Saint Joseph’s Hospital. The officer initiated a traffic stop for the violation, activating the patrol vehicle’s emergency red and blue lights. The violator pulled over to the side of the road and then sped off before the officer got out of the patrol vehicle. The officer then pursued the fleeing vehicle. The officer ran the license plate through the Lake County Dispatch Center.

Dispatch relayed that the vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Missoula City. The speeds reached 60 MPH as it fled out of town. The traffic was minimal and once southbound on US Highway 93 the violator reached speeds of 100 MPH.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Flathead Tribal Police, Ronan Police Department, and the Montana Highway Patrol joined to assist in the pursuit of the stolen vehicle as it entered into the outskirts of Pablo. The violator drove off road several times through fields, a yard and an irrigation ditch before returning to the roadway. Stop sticks were unsuccessfully deployed on Clairmont Road.

The driver was taken into custody by Flathead Tribal Police Officers and Polson Police Officers on scene. The violator was identified as Jay Vallejo. Mr. Vallejo was transported to the Lake County Detention Facility for motor vehicle theft and various traffic crimes. Other stolen items are believed to be in the stolen vehicle.
